Landscape Ecology

The project scale is a matter.

Landscape Ecology is the science and art of studying the ecosystem types within specific geographical areas their interaction with ecological processes, and how we could intervene to improve the interaction process for the benefit of that ecosystem.

From the definition, we are talking about purely scientific topics, and landscape architects have almost no clue what they can do or how to participate. When we look at the big picture and dig into the reasons why we need to intervene in the mentioned area to enhance the health of the ecosystem, it is more or less the same intervention that nowadays Landscape Architects are experiencing in cities, urban areas, where the desire is to enhance the relationship between built landscape and the ecosystem surrounding the metropolitan area.

The landscape architect’s role could be very beneficial to the environment by creating ecological corridors between landscapes within the cities and landscapes outside the cities or regional landscape, this will create a resilient landscape to adapt to the turbulent climate conditions due the global warming, the opportunity to enrich the biodiversity will protect the natural resources and strengthen the ecosystem against severe climate phenomenon.
